Are we doing our bit for community of eX Indian Security Forces?
It has been three months, since terrorist attacks in Mumbai. But Mumbai was just one of the instances of such brutal attacks. India has been witnessing many such unfortunate incidents every year.
Do we give few minutes of our busy schedule to think about the soldiers who keep us safe? While we, the citizens of India, enjoy cup of coffee in our home, the soldiers spend their sleepless nights in extreme conditions at the border. Indian Security Forces (Indian Armed forces, National Security Guards etc.) are the ones who come forward to help us in natural calamities too.
Few days back, I was talking to Lieutenant Colonel Navinder Narang, who has 19 years of diverse experience with Indian Army. He is in core team of XISF, the community of eX Indian Security Forces. XISF aims to provide a robust framework for the members of the ex Indian Security Forces community, to interact with each other in three key areas of civil life - Placements, Business and Socializing. XISF comprises of all ranks from the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force.
I have seen that in many cases the families of ex-Servicemen do not even receive the benefits from Government. we also have political leaders who are not ready to respect tremendous contribution of our security forces. Looking at the situation like this, XISF is a great effort for helping ex-Servicemen and their families, for them to find their ways after forces.

While Government is doing it's portion of support for Indian soldiers and their families (though much of that may be due to pressure from citizens and media), it is our equal responsibility to support the community of ex Indian Security Forces. Few days back I read a news article about BJP promising help to ex-Servicemen, but as we all know these are not more than political promises. If you feel that you should contribute for this noble cause in some way (time, ideas or others), then you can get in touch with Lieutenant Colonel Navinder Narang.
I salute the effort and sacrifice of Indian Security Forces. Let's join our hands together to actually contribute for this noble cause.

It is definitely a thought which every Indian should have and more importantly should be passed onto the next generation. I am contented that at least some of us are paying attn to this aspect of Respect and Regards to our Armed Forces. Good opening, hope it continues. All the best
As a former officer of the Indian Army, its gratifying to note that our countrymen are showing concern on the conditions of the Armed Forces of India. But more than this is a serious concern of the concerted (and perhaps deliberate)inaction on the part of the Powers That Be. Its nice to create awareness, feel proud of the Armed Forces community. Its these good thoughts that need to be translated into action. Then perhaps the Armed Forces will feel the real sense of appreciation that is often spoken of.
The Armed Forces personnel are often restrained due to exegiencies of the service, pride in the uniform, belief that justice will be done some day, and even perhaps self esteem - to bring forth their sorry state. Unfortunately, it is these very 'virtues' which are turned on their head by our Govt and its minions to decry and deny the dues to the Armed Forces people. Of late retired personnel have returned their service and gallantry medals to the President (Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces) which they earned with their sweat and blood. The reaction of the Govt - nothing. Claiming they have no money to pay equal pension to same ranked personnel is indeed a farce of an explanation. I've had politicians and babus tell me - during my service days - thats its good i've decided to be a martyr for the safety of our country. Even as i lived and learnt, they wished me dead!!! I wonder what extreme measure will be needed to wake up these political masters and babus from their slumber. Does this country need an mass resignation/ strike from serving personnel - who will retire from active service some day and be a part of the Ex servicemen fraternity -to highlight the issue more forcefully? That'll indeed be slammed by our countrymen, including our media, with whom the Armed Forces don't share a good equation anyways. Does one need to go to Court for every little and just relief? (that'll mean another some years gone!!)
Coming back to the blog, I think these efforts are good, and should be more focussed in giving suggestions of improving the sense of betrayal felt by many an ex-serviceman. I hope the more needy lot of exservicemen don't turn to extreme measures to survive in the real world...

Your comments are eye opening and touching. I can feel tha pain you and the Indian Army has been going through. Yes, I agree that it is high time to take some action against the power. I am in touch with Navinder and would certainly like to contribute in whatever way possible, in coming years. Also, my belief is that injection of youth in Indian political system can help. I already see parties like Professionals Party of India, Bhartiya Rashtravadi Samanata Party etc. taking shape. It is a huge task to change the system, but we have to keep working in that direction.
